🏛 What Happened in the House of Lords (14 October 2025) ?
The House of Lords held a “ping-pong” session to review final amendments to the Renters’ Rights Bill. The Government won key votes, and all non-government amendments were rejected.
Key Outcomes:
Ground 1A (Re-Let Period): 12-month re-let ban after notice to sell remains.
Ground 4A (Student Lets): Still applies only to full-time students in HMOs.
Pet Deposits: Proposal for a 3-week pet deposit defeated.
Burden of Proof: Lords’ attempt to raise the threshold for local authority penalties failed.
These votes mean there are no remaining substantive disagreements between the Commons and the Lords.
🔜 What’s Next
The Bill returns to the House of Commons on 22 October 2025 for final approval.
Once passed, it will move to Royal Assent and become law.
